Step 5: Attach the phone cords
Attach the phone cord to the uControl hub
a. Locate the phone cord that you disconnected from
the alarm box telephone jack in Step 1.
b. Plug the phone cord into the gray ALARM PHONE port
on the uControl hub.
Attach the blue cord to the phone jack in the
alarm box
a. Locate the blue cord from the uControl package. This cable
connects the uControl Link to the alarm telephone jack.
b. Take one end of the blue uControl cord (it does not matter
which end) and insert the plug into the telephone jack inside
the alarm box.
Attach the blue cord to the uControl hub
a. Take the other end of the blue uControl cord and insert
the plug into the blue HOME PHONE port on the
uControl hub.
Check the status lights
a. If the ALARM PHONE and the HOME PHONE status lights
are green (or flashing green for the HOME PHONE status
light), then proceed to step 6.
If the ALARM PHONE and HOME PHONE status
lights are not green, see “Troubleshooting
the telephone connection” on page 17 in the
uControl Help Guide.
The HOME PHONE status light will not turn on
if you do not have telephone service.
Step 6: Connect to your home network (wired or wireless)
If Ethernet is available and you are able to connect the uControl Link to your home computer
network, follow the instructions in Step 6. If you do not want to connect to a wired network
(or if you do not have a home network), you can skip this step and proceed to Step7.
Wireless setup takes place online after you complete the uControl Link installation. If you
plan to connect to a wireless network, proceed to Step7.
Do you have an Ethernet port nearby
a. Check the area near the alarm box to see if there is an Ethernet port nearby.
b. If you do not have an existing Ethernet port, check the area for the closest router.
If your home network does not include an Ethernet port near your alarm
box, you might need to locate the closest router. If you do not have an
Ethernet port or router available, skip to step 7.
Attach the white Ethernet cable to your computer network
a. Locate the white Ethernet cable from the uControl package.
b. If you have an Ethernet port near your uControl Link, plug the white uControl Ethernet
cable into the Ethernet port.
c. If you do not have an Ethernet port near your uControl Link, plug the white Ethernet
cable into the nearest router.
Attach the white Ethernet cable to the uControl Link
a. Plug the other end of the white Ethernet cable into the ETHERNET port on the
uControl Link.
If the nearest Ethernet port (or router) is a significant distance
from the uControl Link, you might need to purchase additional
Ethernet cable or have it professionally installed.
Check the Ethernet status light
a. If the ETHERNET status light on the uControl Link is green (or flashing
green), then proceed to step 7.
The ETHERNET status light can take a few minutes to turn
green. If the ETHERNET light does not turn on, see
“Troubleshooting the Ethernet connection” on page 17 in the
uControl Help Guide.
Step 7: Connect the battery wires and uControl hub
Connect the battery wires to the battery terminals
a. Locate the battery (or batteries) that you removed from the alarm box in
step 1.
b. Place the battery back inside the alarm box with the terminals on the
outside.
c. Find the two battery wires you disconnected in Step 1.
d. Connect the red battery connector to the positive terminal (marked by a
+ symbol or red) on the battery.
e. Connect the black battery connector to the negative terminal (marked
by a - symbol or black) on the battery.
If your keypad is showing a LOW BATTERY message, it will
not clear immediately after plugging in the battery. This
message might take several hours to clear.
Attach the uControl hub to the alarm box
a. Find a place inside the alarm box to mount the uControl hub.
The mounting position for the uControl hub must be
inside the alarm box.
You might need to move some of the alarm box wires out
of the way. Be careful when you move the wires to avoid
accidentally disconnecting any of the existing wiring.
b. On the back of the uControl hub, remove the protective film from the
tape and press the uControl hub against the back panel of the alarm
box.
Check the connections
a. After you attach the uControl hub to the alarm box, verify that the
power, keypad, and telephone wires are connected.
Verify that the appropriate power, keypad, telephone,
and Ethernet status lights are green.

Step 8: Write down zone map
Your alarm system defines Zones based on the physical features of your home. For example, Zone 1 on
your security system might be associated with your front door. If your security system is armed and you
open the front door, this action triggers a security event in Zone 1.
Before you close the alarm box, you need to write down any zone information that might be written on
the inside of the alarm box door. This information might also be written on the inside cover of your
keypad.
Write down your security zone information
a. In the zone map table below, write the zone mappings in the table. You will use the
information in this table to complete the online account setup.
Step 9: Close the alarm box and activate your account
Close your alarm box
a. If you have a lock on your alarm box, use your key to lock the alarm box
door.
b. If you have screws on your alarm box door, insert the screws and use a
screwdriver to tighten the screws to secure the alarm box door.
c. Check the status lights on the uControl Link to verify that all connections
are good.
If you have the telephone line and an Ethernet line
connected, the status lights for both of these connections
should be green.
Note: The HOME PHONE status light will not turn on if you
do not have telephone service.
d. If any of the lights remain solid red or solid orange, this indicates that
there is a problem of some type with your connection in the indicated
area. To fix the problem, see the related Troubleshooting section of the
uControl Help Guide for the connection that failed.
The SERVICE STATUS light will light up after you activate
your account online.
e. Check the alarm keypad to verify that it is powered and responding to
arm/disarm commands.
Congratulations! You completed the hardware setup.
Access the uControl web site
Now you are ready to access the uControl web site to activate and set up your user account. Go online
and type the following web address in the address field:
You will need the following information to activate your account:
• Zone map information you wrote down in Step 8.
• Shipping manifest or a copy of your welcome email.
• The email address you provided to uControl when you signed up for the service.
